WHY CHOOSE AYM PUPPY TRAINING?

In a world filled with choices, finding a business that is the right fit for you and your dog can be a daunting task. Here's what makes AYM Training Training unique.

Private Lessons

Unlike group classes, which often include 8–10 dogs and limited instructor attention, our private, in-home lessons provide a fully personalized training experience for both you and your dog.

Every dog has unique genetics, experiences, and needs — which is why a one-on-one approach allows us to tailor each session for optimal progress. Training begins with a strong foundation, with distractions and challenges introduced gradually to build confidence and precision without frustration.

Our goal is to empower you as a knowledgeable, capable owner while supporting your dog’s individual development. Sessions are designed to fit your schedule and encourage participation from all family members, ensuring consistency and lasting results.

We Meet You Where You're At

At AYM, we understand that every dog and every owner is unique, and there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to training. That’s why we meet you exactly where you’re at. We take the time to listen to your specific concerns, learn what you’ve already tried, and understand what works — and what doesn’t — for your schedule, lifestyle, and goals.

Our approach goes beyond just teaching commands. We help you truly understand your dog’s behaviour, motivations, and needs, giving you the tools to respond confidently and effectively. By tailoring training to your individual circumstances, we ensure that learning is achievable, enjoyable, and sustainable.

The result is more than just a well-trained dog — it’s a happier, stronger bond and a life together that’s more harmonious, rewarding, and full of joy.

Emphasis In Socialization and Desensitization

Confident puppies make for happy, well-adjusted dogs — eager to explore the world with curiosity and joy. When confidence is lacking, shyness or fear can hold them back from fully enjoying new experiences.

At AYM, we help you recognize and support your puppy through each critical stage of development, providing the skills and guidance needed for healthy socialization and real-world confidence.

Our goal is to prepare both you and your puppy for positive experiences everywhere — from busy parks and vet visits to grooming salons and hiking trails — ensuring every outing is safe, rewarding, and fun.

Veterinary Technician Background

With my background as a Veterinary Technician, I have a deep understanding of animal behaviour and the importance of positive, comprehensive training. Many dogs experience fear and stress during veterinary visits or grooming, often because they were not properly introduced to these experiences as puppies. At AYM, we believe that veterinary clinics and grooming salons shouldn’t be sources of anxiety. Our mission is to teach dogs that nail trims, blow dryers, ear cleaning, tooth brushing, and even physical exams can become positive, enjoyable experiences, helping both dogs and their owners feel confident and relaxed.

Clicker Training

Clicker training is a proven, effective method for communicating with your dog. By associating the distinct click sound with a reward, dogs quickly learn to connect the behaviour with positive outcomes.

This technique allows for immediate, precise reinforcement, speeding up the learning process and enabling trainers to reward desired behaviours even from a distance. While the clicker is a powerful tool, it is typically only needed during the initial stages of training. Studies show that dogs learn up to 45% faster when new behaviours are introduced using a clicker versus a verbal marker like “yes.”

Aversive Tools

There are real and well-documented risks with punitive methods, and that’s why I choose not to use or recommend them. I believe training should build trust, not rely on fear or discomfort. Aversive tools—like prong collars, shock collars, or harsh corrections—may suppress behaviour in the moment, but they don’t address the underlying cause. In many cases, they can increase stress, anxiety, and frustration, which may actually make behaviours worse over time or lead to new ones like avoidance or reactivity. There are also safety concerns. Punitive methods can damage the relationship between you and your dog, reduce their confidence, and in some situations increase the risk of defensive or fear-based responses. When a dog learns that discomfort is unpredictable or tied to certain environments, people, or other dogs, it can create unintended negative associations that are difficult to undo. Instead, I focus on clear communication, positive reinforcement, and teaching dogs what to do, not just what to avoid. This approach leads to more reliable, lasting results while helping dogs feel safe, confident, and understood—and strengthening the bond you share with them.
